Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma believes that the Miss World contestants can play a significant role in addressing challenges face the world.
"There are many challenges facing the world such as poverty, disease and conflict, Miss World contestants can play a role in addressing these challenges," Zuma said during a welcome ceremony of the contestants on Friday.

Southern University 's "Human Jukebox" is one of eight HBCU bands that will be participating in the 2010 Honda Battle of the Bands "Invitational Showcase" in Atlanta, Ga.
Southern University's world famous marching band will be one of eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities bands participating in the 2010 Honda Battle of the Bands "Invitational Showcase."

Hampton, VA - Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey, who is a member of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and its executive committee, has also been appointed to serve on the search committee to select the next president of the NCAA.
The six-person presidential search committee will select a national search firm and intend to identify the next president prior to fall 2010. The president will replace the late Myles Brand, remembered as a towering figure who as NCAA president redefined the role of intercollegiate athletics in higher education.

TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) awarded Florida A&M University (FAMU) $750,000 over three years for its Environmental Health, and Toxicology Educational Research Program.
FAMU is one of only two recipients that received the award.

Dakar, Senegal - Six teams from Africa have qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.  South Africa, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Cameroon were the first five with Algeria rounding out the group yesterday thanks to its victory over Egypt (1-0) in an encounter contested Wednesday in Khartoum, Sudan. Antar Yaki scored the sole goal of the game in the 40th minute within the bout.
