Abuja, Nigeria - The 13th African Securities and Exchanges Association (ASEA) conference opened in Abuja on Thursday with 23 stock exchanges from several African countries in attendance.
In her opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mrs Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, praised the association for keeping faith with its objective of serving as a credible alternative source of supporting equity and long term investment financing.

Lagos, Nigeria - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Japanese government on Thursday in Abuja signed an agreement for the provision of US $1 billion grant for the promotion of private sector growth in Africa.
The Japanese ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Toshitsugu Uesawa, said the grant was in fulfilment of a pledge made by the Japanese government at the G8 Gleneagles summit, to support the growth of the private sector in Africa.

Lagos, Nigeria - A group of Korean investors on Thursday indicated interest in participating in Nigeria's housing development efforts.
The leader of the investors, Mr Philip Yuu, conveyed the group's interest during a courtesy visit to Nigeria's Minister of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Dr Hassan Lawal, in Abuja.

Lagos, Nigeria - The Resident Representative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Country Office, Mr Herve Assan, says the bank will offer a US$1 million grant to establish the AB Micro Finance Bank of Nigeria (ABN).
Assan told journalists on Wednesday in Abuja that the grant was in line with the bank's effort to empower the private sector.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Ethiopia signed an agreement with a Chinese company for the purchase of nine vessels with $ 290 million, Ethiopian Shipping Lines S.C (ESL) said on Wednesday.
ESL said that the buying of the new vessels will help to enhance its transport capacity to 400,000 tons annually from the current 150,000 tons.
