Arab Bankers contine exploits in Africa, loan U.S. $6.2 million to Niger

Niamey, Niger - The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) has granted a 6.2 million dollars (2.8 billion CFA francs) loan to Niger in order to finance a support project for the development of agriculture (PASA) the APA reportedFriday from the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Arab Bankers have also recently loaned $6 million to the Democratic Republic of Congo, loaned Senegal with $8 million, loaned Benin $1.26 million, and Malawi will receive a loan of $7 million.

Abuja, Nigeria - Nigeria is to launched its second Earth Observation Satellite, Nigersat -2, in 2010, the country's Science and Technology minister, Alhassan Zaku, said on Saturday in Abuja.

The minister said the Nigersat-1 encouraged the government to further invest in the communication satellite named NIGCOMSAT.

Abuja, Nigeria - The U.S. oil company, Chevron, on the auspices of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Chevron joint venture, on Thursday in Yenagoa in the Niger Delta donated internet facility and computer accessories to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The donation was made in line with Chevron's commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnerships and to improve the ability of journalists to access information and facilitate communication.

Tunis, Tunisia - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved €1.86 billion loan for South Africa's energy utility company, Eskom Holdings Limited, to finance Medupi power project that will significantly boost the energy capacity of the country and the southern African region, said a press release the Bank issued on Thursday.
