Lagos, Nigeria -  The Nigerian government on Thursday declared a seven-day mourning period over the death of President Umaru Yar'adua.

The Senior Special Assistant to Acting President Jonathan, Mr Ima Niboro, told State House correspondents on Thursday in Abuja that the remains of the President would be buried in his home town of Katsina, on Thursday.

Niboro said that Acting President Goodluck Jonathan expressed shock over the death of Yar'Adua and had declared Thursday a public holiday.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, disclosed that the burial of Yar'adua would take place on Thursday evening in order to allow dignitaries and foreign heads of government to attend the burial ceremony.
