Moscow, Russia - The Russian government has provided some humanitarian assistance and medical aid worth $1 million to the Somali population through Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry," the Foreign ministry said in a statement issued here Wednesday.
The statement said the aid is due to "a critical situation in Somalia's health care delivery system as a result of the long-lasting internal armed conflict."
The civil war in Somalia, ongoing since 1991, has destabilized the African state, with rebel forces largely seizing control of the country from the government. "The Somali government has expressed sincere gratitude to the government of the Russian Federation for the assistance which is another manifestation of the traditional friendly relations between our two countries," the Russian ministry said. -APA |
